For the next meeting of our Equity Minded Reading Group (EMRG), we will dive into the topic of mental health issues in the postgraduate population. Our reading will be “Managing Your Mental Health During Your PhD: A Survival Guide” by Zoe J. Ayers.

This book discusses the unique stresses of the academic environment and offers both advice for increasing resilience and ideas for advocating for better mental health support at one’s own college or university. In our discussion I hope to highlight differences in mental health support available to postdocs vs graduate students and the distinct challenges faced by postdocs. A pdf copy of the book is available online here https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-031-14194-2 and you can learn more about the book and the author here https://www.zjayres.com/

We will meet in person on Wednesday, March 20th from 12:00-1:00pm in Gilmer Hall Room 326A (or via THIS Zoom Link Meeting ID: 959 6161 7276 Passcode: EMRG).

Thanks to the generosity of the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs (OGPA), boxed lunches will be provided at the meeting (limit 15 people). Please sign up to attend the meeting and request lunch by clicking THIS LINK

As always, please feel free to join us if this topic interests you, even if you may not be able to complete the entire reading in time. Our aim is to raise consciousness and we welcome everyone, including those who just want to listen and learn. Thank you, and we hope to see you in March!
