The Office of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs offers career and professional development resources for all postdocs at the University of Virginia. 

Whether pursuing an academic career or exploring the wide diversity of careers outside of academia, our office provides students with up-to-date and relevant resources that will help postdocs make informed career decisions and conduct effective job searches.

Types of Appointments: 


Appointments designed to help postdocs discover the broad range of career options for advanced degree holders. Information discussed during these appointments includes: the job search process, skills assessments, the academic and non-academic job market, and informational interviewing and networking.


Appointments to aid postdocs in the creation of CV's, Resumes, Cover Letters, and other application materials.


Appointments that simulate a job interview setting. Postdocs will answer interview questions and receive feedback on their responses.

All conversations are private and strictly confidential.


  • Career development workshops: Large and small group workshops offered on a variety of career development topics.
  • Professional development workshops: Large and small group workshops designed to aid development in professional competency areas, include leadership, communication, and management.

Assess your current skills, learn about competencies necessary for the job market, explore personality and career assessments.

Guidelines and recommendations for creating your online presence through social media, websites, and more.

Guides and samples to aid in the creation of CVs and resumes.
