Who We Are
The UVA Postdoc Association (PDA) is here to provide you with a supportive network, professional development opportunities, and a platform to connect with fellow postdocs from various disciplines. Our association is built by postdocs, for postdocs. We understand the unique challenges and exciting opportunities that postdocs encounter during this pivotal phase of their careers. We strive to foster a sense of belonging and friendship among our diverse community of researchers, offering a space where you can share experiences, exchange ideas, and build lasting connections.
We collaborate closely with the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs to align our goals and initiatives with the broader vision and values of UVA. This collaboration enhances our ability to work toward our association goals and best serve UVA postdocs.
What We Offer
The UVA Postdoc Association is comprised of 5 committees that aim to provide resources and activities designed to enhance your professional journey and personal and social well-being. The areas we’re currently working on include:
- Social Events: Our association hosts regular social gatherings – such as happy hours, sporting events, and movie nights – where you can meet postdocs from various fields, engage in interdisciplinary discussions, collaborate on projects, and expand your horizons in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
- Professional Development: We're committed to helping you advance your career. We hold a yearly postdoc research symposium and our collaboration with PhD+ and other communities allows for access to workshops that cover topics such as future faculty, grant, fellowship writing workshops.
- Community Support: Connect with fellow postdocs who share your interests, challenges, and aspirations. Whether you're seeking advice on research techniques or work-life balance, our community is here to offer guidance and a listening ear.
- Advocacy and Resources: We advocate for the needs and concerns of postdocs within the UVA community. Gain access to resources that can help you navigate administrative processes, funding opportunities, and mentorship programs.
