EMRG Reading Group - Rest is Resistance

Body

Dear Postdocs,

For the next meeting of our Equity Minded Reading Group (EMRG), we will discuss “Rest is Resistance: A Manifesto”, by Tricia Hersey.  In this book, Hersey examines our relationship with rest in a culture that encourages us to push ourselves to work at an unrealistic, damaging pace. Hersey promotes rest as a form of resistance to a capitalist, white supremacist system that has enslaved millions of people and continues to promote grind culture to exploit human capital for its benefit.

We will meet in person on Wednesday, May 29th from 12:00-1:00pm in Gilmer Hall Room 303. Thanks to the generosity of the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs (OGPA), complimentary copies of the book are available and will be delivered by UVA messenger mail, and lunch will be provided at the meeting. Please sign up to attend the meeting and request a book and/or lunch by clicking the link below

As always, please feel free to join us if this topic interests you, even if you may not be able to complete the entire reading in time. Our aim is to raise consciousness and empower ourselves to be a positive force for equity, diversity, and inclusion, and we welcome everyone, including those who just want to listen and learn.

Thank you, and we hope to see you in May!
