For the next meeting of our Equity Minded Reading Group (EMRG), we will focus on Self-Advocacy, the theme of September’s National Postdoc Awareness Week. Our reading will be “Say More About That…and Other Ways to Speak Up, Push Back, and Advocate for Yourself and Others” by Amber Cabral. This book offers practical advice for addressing inequitable treatment that you can use on your own behalf or to be an advocate and ally for others. It provides realistic scripts for everyday interactions and hard-to-navigate situations that can make speaking up easier.
We will meet in person on Tuesday, October 8th from 12:00-1:00pm, New Cabell Hall, room to be determined (we will let you know).
Thanks to the generosity of the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs (OGPA), complimentary copies of the book are available and will be delivered to you by UVA messenger mail, and lunch will be provided at the meeting. Please sign up to attend the meeting and request a book and/or lunch by clicking THIS LINK
As always, please feel free to join us if this topic interests you, even if you may not be able to complete the entire reading in time. Our aim is to raise consciousness and we welcome everyone, including those who just want to listen and learn. Thank you, and we hope to see you in September!
