2023 Postdoc Symposium - Abstract Submission

The 2024 Postdoctoral Research Symposium will feature two presentation formats - Lightning Talks and Research Talks. Postdocs who are interested in presenting at the event are invited to submit an abstract for either formats. Deadline for Abstract submission is Friday April 12th 11:59 PM. Only one presentation is allowed per person. The symposium abstract review committee will make the final selection of Lightning Talks and Research talks based on interest, available presentation times, and the submitted abstracts.

Lightning Talks (General)

  • Short, 5-minute research narrative presentations with accompanying slides that provide an engaging overview of your research and its broader impact for a non-specialized audience.
  • This year, the Lightning Talks will be held as a competition with prizes (up to $1,000) for the top three Lightning Talks and a People’s Choice award.
  • To select the 7 postdocs who will present in the featured session during the Postdoc Symposium, we will hold a preliminary selection round that will take place the week of April 22.
  • All Lightning Talk presenters MUST participate in this initial round. Training materials and support will be provided by members of the PhD Plus team.

Research Talks (Thematic)

  • Longer, 10-minute research presentations with slides that follow a more traditional oral conference format, including an additional short Q&A following the talk. These presentations are for a more disciplinary-specific audience in one of the concurrent sessions. All our concurrent sessions will be design to be interdisciplinary to promote collaboration within different departments.
